LIZZIE PIKE
BIO
Lizzie Pike grew up in the British countryside, relocating to Southwest London to complete her undergraduate degree in Painting at Wimbledon College of Art. She has kept Southwest London as her base for creating artwork, living and working. Originally using oil paint as her main media, Lizzie started exploring a new medium in textiles; specifically, rug making, during the COVID pandemic owing to a new furry, family member. Both Lizzie’s paintings and rugs begin as images of real-life objects that then evolve to include patterns, motions and textures. Using her own memories of growing up in the countryside, and stories from British folklore, Lizzie merges these ideas to create a conversation between humans and nature and how our memories and memories of the Albion inform British culture, gender and social constructs. Her new medium of wool adds another layer of memories and dialogue, long fibres of history explore the development of human relationships, customs and cultures.
